CQC Inspection

We are delighted to announce that Kirkley Mill GP Surgery recently received a ‘Good’ rating following a Care Quality Commission (CQC) Inspection held on 15th August 2019.

Among the reasons for the Surgery’s improved rating the CQC highlights:

  • Patients were supported, treated with dignity and respect and were involved in decisions about their care and treatment.
  • Results were in line with or above local and national averages.
  • Patients’ needs were met by the way in which services were organised and delivered eg. three practices working together to deliver an ‘on the day’ service from 15:00-18:30.
  • Feedback from patients on the day of inspection was positive about the care received by the practice.

The CQC previously rated Kirkley Mill “inadequate” after a 2018 inspection which found numerous areas of concern.

Dr Tom Curtis, Primary Care Medical Director for the Suffolk GP Federation, was delighted with the news. He said, “The findings of this CQC inspection are the result of the tremendous hard work carried out by the amazing surgery team. We are continuously striving to improve patient care, and are pleased that the CQC recognise the achievements to date despite the challenges general practice faces.”

Dr Liam Stevens, Chair of NHS Great Yarmouth and Waveney Clinical Commissioning Group who commission the service said “We are delighted with the recent ‘Good’ rating awarded by the CQC at Kirkley Mill. This result is a reflection of a continued commitment to the delivery of high quality, safe care to each and every patient. Congratulations to the team”

The CQC carries out regular planned inspections of GP practices across the country and provide detailed feedback and overall ratings of Inadequate, Requires Improvement, Good or Outstanding.
